For many harpists the mere thought of ballet music leads the mind to those famous sparkling harp cadenzas which have delighted audiences worldwide. Indeed, the harp as an instrument is completely essential in ballet scores and used by composers to its full potential to create countless beautiful, magical moments.
However, as rewarding as the harp parts are in ballet scores, it is not often that the harpist enjoys having a complete melody as a solo part in the orchestral score. This book remedies this by encouraging harpists to play these wonderful famous melodies as solos that stand on their own.
As a bonus I have included one famous dance from the world of opera, namely “Entracte and Waltz†from Act 2 of Tchaikowsky’s Eugene Onegin, which happens to be my favourite tune from that work. Of course, this is not strictly ballet music, although it is sometimes featured at ballet productions. Notwithstanding, this is a most gracious waltz that is one of the highlights of this wonderful drama. I am sure it will be a delightful and welcome addition to your repertoire.
